Bells Sue for Entry into Cable: The Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co. of Virginia and its Bell Atlantic Video Services Co. subsidiary filed suit in a Virginia federal court to overturn a 1984 federal law barring phone companies from offering cable TV programs where they also furnish telephone service. The lawsuit came just two days after another Bell Atlantic unit announced plans to compete directly with a cable television operation outside its phone service area, a first for the phone industry.
