Litton Data Systems Lands $60-Million Army Contract
Litton Data Systems division in Agoura Hills has received a $60-million subcontract to develop the Tactical Operations Center for the U. S. Army’s new anti-missile, high-altitude defense program.
Under the four-year contract, the unit of Litton Industries Inc. of Beverly Hills will design, integrate and test the system. The prime contractor is Lockheed Missiles & Space Co. The new Army program is being developed to detect and destroy hostile tactical ballistic missiles, such as advanced Scuds, far from their targets.
In a separate award, the data systems division won a contract from Germany’s Siemens AG Defense Electronics group to define the mission-control and data-communications engineering requirements for the surface-to-air missile operations centers of Germany’s future defense system.
The contract, whose value was not disclosed, covers 17 months. It will be followed by a prototype and development effort beginning in March, 1993, but Litton said the value of any further involvement by the company is still undetermined.
