California IN BRIEF : EMERYVILLE : District Is Subject of CAP Test Inquiry
State education officials are investigating whether eighth-grade students in the Emery Unified School District cheated on a state exam measuring pupil performance. The annual California Assessment Program test was administered in April to 300,000 eighth-graders statewide. Last week, the state released the scores for every district except Emery, where 40 students had taken the test measuring proficiency in reading, writing, mathematics, science and history. The Department of Education “is temporarily withholding the scores of Emery Unified for the duration of an investigation of its answer sheets,” department spokesman Bill Rukeyser said. No one has been accused of cheating at this point, he added.
