A woman and her infant daughter were found dead in their apartment two weeks after a relative trying to check on them was turned away by guards at the public housing project, the family says.

Marilyn Green, 39, and her 10-month-old daughter, Marie, had been dead at least two weeks when the bodies were found Wednesday night at the Stateway Gardens complex, police said.

Autopsies did not immediately reveal the cause of death but authorities said the infant probably starved to death.

Charles Nason said that guards turned him away when he tried to check on Green on Dec. 11.

A Chicago Housing Authority policy in place at Stateway Gardens since 1991 prevents visitors from entering buildings until residents sign them in.
