POP/ROCK - Dec. 31, 1992
Record-Breaking Record: Whitney Houston’s “The Bodyguard” soundtrack album sold an estimated 1 million copies last week, the most single week sales by an album since SoundScan introduced a computerized sales monitoring system in May, 1991. The figure shatters the record 831,000 copies sold two weeks ago by the same album. Country star Billy Ray Cyrus’s “Some Gave All,” however, was 1992’s biggest-selling album, registering an estimated 4.68 million sales since its release last summer. The runner-up: fellow country star Garth Brooks’ “Ropin’ the Wind,” one of three Brooks albums among the year’s 10 bestsellers, according to SoundScan.
