5 San Pedro Players, 4 From Carson Named to All-City Football Teams
Five players from City Section 3-A Division champion San Pedro and four players from 4-A Division runner-up Carson have been named to All-City football teams.
San Pedro (12-1-1) was represented on the 29-player 3-A team by running back Ambrose Russo, offensive guard Greg Cukrov, defensive end Michael Spelich and defensive backs Bryant Thomas and Bryan Castaneda.
Taft tailback Jerry Brown, a sophomore who is the half-brother of USC Heisman Trophy winner Charles White and the uncle of California tailback Russell White, was named 3-A player of the year after rushing for 1,720 yards and 15 touchdowns. San Pedro defeated Taft in the championship game, 24-7.
Carson (9-4-1) was represented on the 30-player 4-A team by quarterback Jamie Sander, offensive tackle Jesse Misaalefua, defensive lineman Sipo’u Mareko and linebacker James Pepe.
Also named to the 4-A team were quarterback Vaimagalo Faavi-Tua’au and defensive back Brandon Moore of Banning, and Westchester quarterback Seka Edwards. Moore and Dorsey wide receiver Antonio Carrion were the only repeat selections.
Junior tailback Tyrone Crenshaw of 4-A champion Sylmar was named player of the year. Crenshaw, who rushed for 1,812 yards and 22 touchdowns before Sylmar suffered its first loss in the CIF/Reebok Bowl against Bishop Amat, was one of five Spartans named to the 4-A team. Sylmar defeated Carson in the title game, 17-0.
The teams were selected by members of the media.
