COLLEGE FOOTBALL / BOWL REPORT : JOHN HANCOCK : Baylor’s Teaff Ends Career
Baylor Coach Grant Teaff issued a warning Wednesday to skeptics who think his team has little chance against Arizona in the John Hancock Bowl (11:30 a.m, Channel 2).
“We’re going to play like crazy Thursday afternoon, and I think Arizona will respect us,” said Teaff, who will end his 30-year coaching career with the game in El Paso.
Arizona is 6-4-1. Baylor (6-5) has been feeding off a 21-20 victory over Texas and hopes to continue that momentum. The Bears also are inspired considering that it will be Teaff’s last game as a coach.
“You want to help him, he’s done so much for us,” said Robert Strait, Baylor’s 255-pound junior fullback who has provided the Bears with a powerful inside running game and 23 touchdowns this season.
“He molded so many of our guys. Without him a lot of guys wouldn’t be in school. He’s taught us how to respect ourselves and others,” Strait said.
