Nation IN BRIEF : TEXAS : Bomb Is Found in ‘Malcolm X’ Theater
A powerful pipe bomb was found under a seat in a Dallas movie theater where “Malcolm X” was to be shown. A timing device attached to the bomb had malfunctioned. Agents of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms detonated the bomb in the theater’s parking lot and sent the fragments to an FBI lab. ATF investigator Sharon Wheeler said the bomb was large, and people “more than likely” could have been killed by the device. Authorities refused to speculate whether the attempted bombing was racially motivated. The theater, in the South Oak Cliff section of Dallas, opened as usual and showed the film throughout the day.
