Bryan Defeats Upstart Testwuide in Copper Bowl Tennis Final

Jeremy Testwuide of Calabasas managed two upsets of nationally ranked age-group players to advance to the championship match of the Copper Bowl tennis tournament’s 16-and-under division, but his run ended this week in a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Camarillo’s Bob Bryan.
Testwuide entered the tournament--held in Tucson from Saturday through Tuesday--unseeded but upset top-seeded Blake McMeans of Knoxville, Tenn., in the quarterfinals, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, and surprised Mike Bryan, Bob’s twin, in the semifinals, 7-6, 6-2.
Both Bryans have been ranked among the country’s top five in their age group.
Testwuide registered the victories, his first major upsets in a national-caliber tournament, despite a wrist injury he suffered while skateboarding.
The injury deprived Testwuide of his two-handed backhand, without which the 15-year-old was forced to abandon his baseline game.
“It took away his ability to sit back and wait for the other guy to make a mistake,” said Dexter MacBride, Testwuide’s coach. “Instead, it forced him to come to the net the first chance he had and really put the pressure on the other guy.”
