COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Kirch, Mejer Take Charge in CCI Victory
Stacy Kirch had 18 points and 11 assists to lead Christ College Irvine to an 80-72 victory over Southern California College in a Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Saturday at Christ College Irvine.
Gitte Mejer had 17 points and seven rebounds and Stacey Giem added 16 points for the Eagles (19-4, 6-0 in conference).
Tina DeMarsh and Cyndi Lyons each scored 15 points for SCC (11-10, 1-5).
In the Big West Conference:
Pacific 70, Cal State Fullerton 44--Anna Abramova had 12 points and nine rebounds and Heidi James had 10 points to lead Fullerton (4-11, 2-7). Natasha McAtte led Pacific (12-4, 5-3) with 17 points.
In the California Collegiate Athletic Assn.:
Cal Poly Pomona 84, Chapman 54--Mildred Conston had 26 points in 26 minutes to lead Cal Poly Pomona (16-2, 4-1), ranked 10th in NCAA Division II, at the Hutton Center.
Chapman (2-15, 0-5) shot 26% from the field in the first half and trailed, 40-19, at halftime. Natalie Ramirez and Melody Earle each scored 16 points for the Panthers.
In a Western Christian Athletic Conference men’s basketball game:
San Jose Christian 131, Pacific Christian 114--Charles Ross scored 37 points for Pacific Christian (14-10, 3-1), which trailed, 62-47, at halftime. Melvin Adams had 28 points for San Jose Christian (12-13, 4-1), which had seven players in double figures.
In nonconference men’s swimming:
UC Irvine 117, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 76--Elijah Fan won the 400 individual medley, Donny Richmond won the 500 freestyle and both swam on the winning 200 medley relay team for host Irvine (5-4).
In the Country Classic Open wrestling tournament:
Grubbs wins--Michael Grubbs (19-2) was the only division winner for Cal State Fullerton, defeating Joey Dansby of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, 4-2, at 118 pounds.
Fullerton’s Christian Holiday was defeated, 4-2, by Neal Mason (wrestling unattached) in the 158-pound final. The Titans’ Lazlo Malnar took third at 177 pounds by beating Dan Corpstein of host Cal State Bakersfield, 4-2.
