Reporting Is Faulty
The shooting of an innocent 12-year-old girl outside the Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley was a terrible tragedy.
For 27 years, the club has provided a haven for young people who seek a place to engage in positive activities and friendships that will help them avoid the dangers posed by the gangbangers and drug pushers in this part of the Valley.
Your coverage of the incident contained several inaccuracies that could potentially harm this vital community organization.
There were absolutely no disputes inside the club prior to the shooting outside. The perpetrators arrived after the dance was over and started a scuffle with club members and security in the parking lot just prior to the shooting.
Security was provided by the club’s wrestling team coaches. When gang members tried to enter the building, they were informed that the dance was over and were asked to leave.
Linda Harris, a local resident quoted in the article, is not a member of the board of directors of the club, as was reported. She has issued a statement stating that there was, indeed, adequate security at the event.
We extend our deepest sympathy to the Dozier family, and encourage the community to join with us in calling for an end to such senseless violence.
LEROY CHASE, JR.
Executive Director
