World IN BRIEF : PANAMA : Police Search for Kidnaped Americans
Panamanian President Guillermo Endara assigned a special anti-terrorist unit to lead the search for three American missionaries kidnaped by Colombian guerrillas. U.S. and Panamanian authorities said they had no word on the fate of three members of the Florida-based New Tribes Mission, who were snatched Sunday in the rugged Darien province near the Panama-Colombia border. The area is considered a pipeline for drugs from Colombia. Mission spokesman Guy Sier identified the three as David Mankins, 43, of Susanville, Calif.; Richard Tenenoff, 36, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mark Rich, 23, hometown not available.
