COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Mejer, CCI Women Beat Biola to Extend Winning Streak to 11
The Christ College Irvine women’s basketball team defeated Biola, 78-69, Tuesday for its 11th consecutive victory, a school record.
Gitte Mejer had 21 points and eight rebounds and Stacy Kirch had 11 points, 12 assists and six rebounds for Christ College Irvine (20-4) in the nonconference game at Biola.
Stacey Giem added 18 points, making four of five three-point shots, for CCI, No. 25 in the NAIA national poll.
Amber Andreasen had 23 points for Biola (11-10).
In Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball:
Westmont 77, Christ College Irvine 72--D’Andre Brown scored a season-high 29 points to keep host Christ College Irvine close, but Westmont pulled away with seven minutes left in the game.
Darren Lax added 11 points and eight assists for the Eagles (10-11, 2-4). Westmont is 12-9 and 3-3.
In nonconference baseball:
Chapman 3, UC San Diego 2--Ty Seltzer had a run-scoring single to break a 2-2 tie in the seventh for host Chapman (1-0) at Hart Park. Bob Skapik had an RBI single earlier in the seventh for Chapman. Buster Nietzke opened the first with a double for Chapman and scored on a one-out single by Chris Briones.
In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s volleyball:
Hawaii 3, UC Irvine 0--Mark Presho had 10 kills for visiting Hawaii (3-1, 3-1) in a 15-10, 15-3, 15-2 victory. Chad Milling had eight kills and Jeff Uhrig seven for the Anteaters (1-3, 0-2).
