Compton : 3 Student Representatives Attend Board Meeting
Three high school students became the first student representatives to the Compton Unified school board last week.
Their job will be to increase student involvement in district decision making. The students will have no decision-making authority.
The students are senior LaJuanda Richardson from Dominguez High, senior Kren Malone from Compton High and junior Jasmine Hamlett from Centennial High. During their first meeting, they told the board about upcoming events and recent school accomplishments in sports and academics.
Ultimately, board members said, they want the students to take an active role in discussing educational concerns and policies. Board member John Steward said he wants staff to provide the students with complete board agendas so the students can prepare for the meetings.
Board member Amen Rahh originally suggested having student board members, and the full board approved the idea in early January.
