PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP : Loara Beats El Dorado on Late Penalty Kick

Armbay Zakaria scored on a penalty kick with six minutes left as Loara defeated El Dorado, 3-2, in an Empire League boys’ soccer game Friday at Loara.

Zakaria had tied the score on a shot from 30 yards out with 15 minutes to play for the Saxons (7-7-4, 3-4-1 in league).

The score was tied, 1-1, at the half. El Dorado (12-5-5, 5-1-2) scored a minute into the second half when James Ramos scored on a corner kick that went directly into the goal.

In other Empire League games:

Cypress 3, Katella 0--Forward Joe Meza scored two goals for visiting Cypress (7-5-4, 3-3-2). Teammate junior Steve Bishotf had the other score. Katella drops to 7-10-2, 0-7-1.

Esperanza 1, Los Alamitos 0--Joe Darosa scored with five minutes left in the first half to lead Esperanza (12-2-5, 6-0-2). David Harper had 11 saves for Los Alamitos.

In the Century League:

Santa Ana Valley 3, Foothill 0--Carlos Vergara, Tony Arredondo and Francisco Islas each scored to lead Santa Ana Valley (19-2-1, 7-0-1). Foothill is 10-8-4, 2-5-1.

Villa Park 1, Orange 0--Mike Mason scored a first-half goal to lead Villa Park (4-7-4, 1-3-4). Sean Bartko had 13 saves for the Spartans.

Canyon 0, El Modena 0--Bijal Shah had six saves for El Modena (7-5-2, 4-2-2), and Aaron Harries had six for Canyon (10-7-7, 1-3-4).

In the Freeway League:

Sonora 2, Sunny Hills 2 (OT)--Chuy Miramontes scored his second goal of the game with four minutes left in regulation for Sunny Hills (9-6-3, 5-0-2), which remained alone in first place. The teams played to a 0-0 tie Monday.

In the Garden Grove League:

Santiago 1, Pacifica 1--Anthony Rodriguez tied the score about 15 minutes into the second half for visiting Santiago (9-1-1 in league), which lost to Pacifica, 3-1, Monday. Noe Granados scored in the first half and Justin McAnear had 15 saves for Pacifica (9-1-2).

La Quinta 3, Rancho Alamitos 1--Jimmy Carbajal had a goal and an assist and Pat Ferry and Bill Bartz each scored a goal for visiting La Quinta (5-10-1, 3-7-1). Rancho Alamitos is 2-13-1, 2-8-1.

Kennedy 2, Bolsa Grande 0--Ryan Bean and Daniel Arreguin each scored for visiting Kennedy (11-4-3, 7-4-1). Bean scored his 25th goal of the season in the first half.

In the Orange League:

Western 1, Valencia 0--Shawn Verne had 12 saves--including two on penalty kicks--for Western (11-5-2, 3-4-1). Tec Shawn scored a second-half goal for Western.

Anaheim 0, Brea-Olinda 0--Joel Vasquez had eight saves for Anaheim (19-2-3, 6-0-2). Jeff Miller had 11 saves for Brea-Olinda (4-0-3).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Hills 3, Costa Mesa 0--Dan Carlson, Dean Dowd and Ryan Miller scored for Laguna Hills (10-5-7, 6-0-2). Goalie Mike Messinger recorded his 12th shutout of the season. Costa Mesa is 2-10-1, 2-6-0.

Trabuco Hills 3, Estancia 2--Nick Chavis scored the winning goal midway through the second half for Trabuco Hills (11-7-1, 6-1-1). Estancia (1-6-1 in league), which forfeited five league games for using an ineligible player, had the tied score, 2-2, four minutes earlier on Juan Camberos’ second goal of the game.

In the South Coast League:

Mater Dei 4, Dana Hills 0--Brandon Smallwood scored two goals on penalty kicks and Danny Smith also scored on a penalty kick for host Mater Dei (10-3-8, 3-2-3).

El Toro 2, Capistrano Valley 2--Geral Nedelykovic and Brian Riggs each had a goal for El Toro (7-5-8, 1-3-4). John Brull and Chris Tullar each had a goal for Capistrano Valley (15-4-4, 5-1-2).

Mission Viejo 1, San Clemente 1--Chris Zamboukis scored in the first two minutes of the second half for host Mission Viejo. Aaron Hennigs scored in the first half for San Clemente.

In Sea View League girls’ soccer:

Woodbridge 2, Tustin 0--Elshia Vasquez and Morgan Ganitch scored the goals for visiting Woodbridge (7-7-5, 4-4-4). Tustin drops to 5-11-3, 3-8-1.

Santa Margarita 2, Saddleback 0--Meagan Lingo had two assists and Annie Luke and Jamie Hannefield each scored for host Santa Margarita (12-2-8, 8-1-3), which posted its 11th shutout, a single-season school record. Sandra Toscano had 17 saves for Saddleback (0-12 in league).

Newport Harbor 1, Corona del Mar 0--Kim DeMayo had nine saves in the shutout for Newport Harbor (10-10-1, 5-6-1). Meggen Flenner scored the only goal on a penalty kick in the first half. Corona del Mar is 10-5-6, 6-3-3.
