Hilton Names Avansino
Hilton Hotels Corp. on Monday named Raymond C. Avansino Jr. president and chief operating officer in a move that establishes a successor to Chairman Barron Hilton, industry analysts said.
In a separate development, Hilton’s highly regarded gaming division president, John V. Giovenco, was selected as president and chief operating officer of rival ITT-Sheraton Corp.
Avansino, 49, a Nevada lawyer and former member of the Nevada Gaming Commission, will oversee Hilton’s hotel and gaming divisions, which own, manage and franchise more than 240 hotels and hotel-casinos. Avansino has been a member of Hilton’s board since 1986.
The title of president had been previously held by Barron Hilton, who will remain as chairman of the Beverly Hills-based company.
