Sue Henger, hired late last year by the Bowers Museum of Cultural Art primarily to edit a new, nationally circulated quarterly magazine of “cultural arts,” has been laid off because museum officials decided the magazine launch was premature. “Looking at it strategically, in the long term, we weren’t quite ready to put out a major magazine,” said Armand Labbe, Bowers director of collections and research. The magazine has been delayed indefinitely, Labbe said, because of “a constellation of things” including the poor economy. He added that, due to changes in the exhibition schedule, the museum won’t be publishing related books that Henger also was to have edited. Henger is serving as temporary public information officer at the Laguna Art Museum while Ellen Satlof is on maternity leave.
