Drivers, keep your eyes on the road and the newspaper.

The coming year will see more aggravating traffic backups and road closures due to street resurfacing projects than ever before.

It’s all part of a massive, $6-million road rehabilitation project that city officials say is badly needed. Over the next several months, city officials advise drivers to watch for newspaper articles and temporary street signs that advertise where the road work will occur.”

“A lot of our streets are in bad shape right now,” said Dennis Wilberg, city engineer. “But I think the big thing to keep in mind is that by this time next year, we’ll have every major street in town resurfaced.”

Roads scheduled to be resurfaced soon include:

* Marguerite Parkway, from Crown Valley Parkway to Via Escolar.

* Marguerite Parkway, from Oso Parkway to Trabuco Road.

* Southbound lanes on Marguerite Parkway, from Trabuco Road to Alicia Parkway.

* Los Alisos Boulevard, from west city limits to Santa Margarita Parkway.

In addition, other government agencies, such as power and water companies will be working on city streets in 1993.

Wilberg said construction schedules will be staggered to reduce traffic problems.

“We’re not going to have every street torn up at the same time,” he said. “We’ll do our best to coordinate things.”
