Presidents’ Day Weekend Box Office : ‘Groundhog’ Has Its Day
“Groundhog Day,” the Bill Murray comedy, paced the four-day holiday weekend. Its $14.6-million gross was the second largest opening for a winter film. Last year’s “Wayne’s World,” which grossed $18 million its first weekend, is first. Among other new films, “Untamed Heart” could woo no better than sixth place, while the poorly reviewed “The Temp” looks to be laid off soon.
“Aladdin” keeps humming along, and is now the biggest grossing film of 1992-- and 1993--with a total to date of $173.5 million, well surpassing last summer’s “Batman Returns,” which grossed $162 million.
