The flyer says it all--in Chinese.

ICN Biomedicals Inc., a subsidiary of ICN Pharmaceuticals, is opening a distribution network in China, selling its line of diagnostic drugs and products to research laboratories in the communist country.

To spread the word about its first venture in China, ICN Biomedicals has used flyers to pass the word about its company at seminars and exhibitions.

“What we are doing is focusing on establishing the company’s image in China,” said ICN spokesman Paul Knopick.

The distribution network is now possible because of a recent policy shift in China. Now, rather than purchasing goods from a central office, local research laboratories are allowed to place their own orders.

Knopick said that it was unknown how much money ICN Biomedicals stands to gain from the new open market. ICN Biomedicals had 1991 sales of $96.5 million and about $51 million of that was in international sales.
