HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL GIRLS’ PLAYOFF ROUNDUP : Thousand Oaks Too Much for Diamond Bar
Marion Jones scored a game-high 22 points and had 14 rebounds to lead second-ranked Thousand Oaks to a 76-41 victory over Diamond Bar in a Southern Section Division I-A playoff game Saturday at Thousand Oaks.
Melissa Wood added 14 points and Sam Clarke had 13 for Thousand Oaks (28-0). Diamond Bar fell to 24-4.
No. 9 Long Beach Poly 57, Apple Valley 55--Kiki Johns, a sophomore guard, led Poly with 21 points in a I-AA victory at Apple Valley.
Apple Valley’s Felecity Willis made a free throw with seven seconds remaining to tie the score at 55, but Johns made an 18-foot jump shot as time ran out to win the game for Poly (22-3).
Suzanne Knight, a senior forward, had 21 points for Apple Valley (22-2).
La Canada 58, Yucca Valley 41--Senior forward Melissa Lord had 33 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and three steals for visiting La Canada (19-8) in a III-A victory over Yucca Valley (11-12). La Canada went on 9-0 run at the end of the third quarter by hitting three consecutive three-point shots to make the score 42-25 at halftime.
Hacienda Heights Wilson 53, Westlake 36--Shanon Sincock scored a team-high 10 points for Westlake (15-14), which could not overcome a 21-2 first-quarter deficit in a Division II-A quarterfinal game at Westlake.
