WINGS: With the closing of Meadowlark Airport several years ago, Fullerton’s municipal airport is the one civilian airfield in the county aside from John Wayne Airport. One major difference: no scheduled commercial flights from Fullerton, though you can charter a plane and pilot. Airport director Roland Elder says annual takeoffs and landings, which hit 264,000 in 1969, are now down to about 160,000. . . . Elder says pure recreational flying has dropped. “Not that flying isn’t fun,” he says, but much of the air traffic these days is for business.
