<i> Reuters</i>
LONDON — Author Salman Rushdie was granted an uncontested divorce by Britain’s High Court on Tuesday, ending his marriage to American writer Marianne Wiggins.
Rushdie, in hiding since Iran imposed a death sentence on him in 1989, sought the divorce on the basis of more than two years’ separation. The couple, both now 45, were married in 1988. They were not present for the brief hearing.
