Alemany vs. Costa Mesa

SITE--Costa Mesa High School, 7:30 p.m.

RECORDS--Costa Mesa (27-4), Mission Hills Alemany (25-5).

ALEMANY--The Indians have played local teams seven times and only lost twice. To win this time around, Alemany’s scoring leaders will have to at least sustain their championship form. Although Alemany dropped the III-AA title game to Inglewood Morningside, 71-60, three players scored in double figures: junior forward Zevette Mitchell (10-point, seven-rebound average) contributed 22 points, sophomore forward Samantha Rigley (13 points, seven rebounds) added 14 and senior center Theresa Funicello (6.5 points, 7.3 rebounds) 13.

COSTA MESA--This is where the season actually begins for the Mustangs. Everyone figured the engravers had inscribed Costa Mesa’s name into the championship trophy long before it actually defeated Rancho Alamitos, 72-55, for the III-A title. But in the State playoffs, Costa Mesa believes it has a lot to prove.

KEY TO THE GAME--Not only will Alemany have to figure out how to stop senior guard Olivia DiCamilli, the Indians will have their hands full with junior forward Heather Robinson and senior forward Neiar Kabua.

CONSENSUS--This is the second times these teams have met this season. In early December, Costa Mesa edged the Indians, 51-49, in the Brea-Olinda tournament, but the Mustangs have improved drastically since then.
