Christina Meier got a confidence boost, and Katja Seizinger got closer to the overall lead at the World Cup giant slalom event at Lillehammer, Norway.

Meier, who didn’t make the team at the World Alpine Championships in Japan last month, edged Martina Ertl by just .04 seconds after two runs down Hafjell’s Olympic course. Austrian Armin Assinger attacked a wind-swept course to edge Daniel Mahrer of Switzerland by 0.01 seconds for his first World Cup victory of the season in the downhill race at Sierra Nevada, Spain. AJ Kitt of Rochester, N.Y., had an impressive run, finishing fifth.
