Too Much Snow, Not Enough Salt
CLEVELAND — Workers at the rock-salt mines of Azco Salt Inc. are working overtime to catch up with the winter storm that swept up the Eastern Seaboard last weekend.
Customers from Duluth, Minn., to Virginia have inundated Azco with rush orders. New York City--which usually orders about 100,000 tons a year--opted to get another 45,000 tons shipped.
“This is probably the biggest year we’ve had since 1978,” said Bruce Higgins, manager of Azco’s Cleveland mine. “We’ll be busy the rest of the year just getting ready for next year.”
