WINNETKA : Man Struck by Car After Falling Dies

A man suffered fatal injuries when he fell down in a Winnetka intersection and was struck by a car, Los Angeles police said Tuesday.

The elderly man, who was not identified by the county coroner’s office, was crossing Sherman Way about 9 p.m. Monday when he stumbled, fell and was hit by a car driven by Kari Hoover, 22, of Chatsworth, Officer Frank Zdroy said. Hoover told police that she was unable to stop her car in time to avoid running over the man.

The man was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where he died of his injuries, Zdroy said. Hoover was not cited by police.

Zdroy said witnesses told police that the man appeared to be drunk at the time of the accident. Blood-alcohol tests taken at the hospital confirmed that the man was intoxicated, Zdroy said.
