FULLERTON : Sorority to Give Out Breast Exam Cards

To raise awareness among women about breast cancer, members of a Cal State Fullerton sorority will distribute cards today that show how to complete a breast self-examination.

Every 11 minutes, a woman dies of breast cancer, and early detection of the cancer by self-examination is the best hope for survival, according to the National Cancer Institute.

The waterproof cards read “Don’t Be a Fool,” and are made to be hung from a shower nozzle. “I think it’s very important that women should know about the dangers of breast cancer,” said Kari Thompson, 22, a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.

Zeta Tau Alpha chapters across the country are working to distribute 1 million cards.

Members of the local sorority will distribute the free cards at Albertson’s Food Center at 1040 E. Bastanchury Road and at the Ralphs Grocery Co. store at 1121 N. Harbor Blvd., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The cards will also be distributed at dormitories, the Women’s Center and Student Health Center on campus.

The national sorority raises money annually for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
