Five County Teams Entered in Volleyball Tournament

Five Orange County boys’ volleyball teams are entered in the 40-team field at the California Volleyball Tournament of Champions Saturday at Cal State Northridge and Pierce College.
Top-ranked Capistrano Valley and unranked El Toro, Marina, La Quinta and San Clemente are in the tournament, which begins with pool play at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
The finals are tentatively scheduled for 8:30 p.m. at Cal State Northridge. All matches are one game to 15 points, with a 17-point scoring cap.
The tournament, formerly at UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion, was moved to Northridge and Pierce this year to cut costs, said Neil Newman, tournament director.

Pools 1-4 play at Cal State Northridge
Pool 1--Fresno Bullard, Long Beach Poly, Los Angeles Roosevelt, Medera, San Diego Southwest; Pool 2--Fresno Clovis West, Los Angeles University, San Clemente, El Cajon Valhalla, Westlake; Pool 3--Downey, McLane, Palisades, Poway, San Diego University of San Diego; Pool 4--Canyon Country Canyon, Capistrano Valley, Los Altos, Mira Mesa, Sanger.
Pools 5-8 play at Pierce College
Pool 5-- El Toro, Los Angeles Cleveland, Santa Monica, Westchester, West Torrance; Pool 6--Agoura, Los Angeles Taft, Los Angeles Bell, Marina, Encinitas San Dieguito; Pool 7--Fresno High, Escondido San Pasqual, San Pedro, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, Venice; Pool 8--Granada Hills, La Quinta, Marshall, Miramonte, Temple City.
