UCLA nose guard Bruce Walker, charged with two misdemeanor weapons violations, was fined $405 and ordered to perform 35 hours of community service after pleading no contest to disturbing the peace in the Beverly Hills Municipal Court on Wednesday.

In lieu of the fine, he has the option of doing an additional 40 hours of community service. Regardless, he must perform the 35 hours, 17 of which must be spent in a hospital emergency room.

Judge Charles G. Rubin did not dismiss the charge of possession of a concealed firearm in a vehicle. However, if Walker stays out of trouble for the next year it is likely to be dismissed.

“He has to stay free of any type of criminal conduct for a period of one year, at which time the gun charge could be dismissed, but we didn’t want to dismiss the gun count right away,” said Lisa Hart, deputy district attorney. “I think it is important for people to know that gun charge wasn’t dismissed. If he messes up in any way, then the gun charge is going to be reinstated.”

Walker and tailback Kevin Williams were arrested Jan. 21 during a routine traffic stop when Beverly Hills police found a loaded handgun in the vehicle that Williams was driving. They were charged with possession of a concealed firearm in a vehicle and carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle.

The charges carried a maximum sentence of one year in county jail and a $1,000 fine.

Williams pleaded no contest to the weapons charges on Feb. 9, was sentenced to two years unsupervised probation and fined $405.
