LOS ANGELES : Researcher Finds Students Perform Better in Groups

A study of two seventh-grade classes by a UCLA professor showed that students perform better in groups than alone because they cheat in groups.

The study was conducted by Noreen Webb of the Graduate School of Education, and a researcher.

The two classes had the same teacher.

“My research clearly shows that many students use the resources of the group to get the right answer, but not to learn the procedures for solving the problems,” Webb said.

Students reportedly copied answers or conferred with others in the group.
