Ebony Jane won the Irish Grand National steeplechase at Dublin, Ireland, in a race marred by the death of one of the favorites.

Irish champion jockey Charlie Swan rode Ebony Jane, a 6-1 shot, to a one-length victory over Rust Never Sleeps, a 66-1 shot.

Rushing Wild was leading, but pulled up just before the sixteenth pole. Suffering from a broken pelvis, Rushing Wild initially was treated with painkillers, but course veterinarians eventually decided to destroy the horse.
