Thousand Oaks city and school officials tentatively agreed Tuesday that the city’s redevelopment agency will pay for a theater and finance a larger share of a stadium at Westlake High School.

The Conejo Valley Unified School District has long wanted the $2.3-million theater, which would be used by students and the community. A similar theater at Newbury Park High School will be paid for by the district.

The city’s redevelopment agency also agreed to pay $750,000 toward a stadium with athletic fields at Westlake High. Previously, the city’s share of the project was $100,000, officials said.

The remaining $400,000 needed for the project will come from the district and from boosters, officials said.

The theater and stadium will be funded only if the city is able to extend the life of the redevelopment agreement it has with the school and park districts and Ventura County, which now runs through 2023, and raise the redevelopment agency’s debt limit.
