Countywide : A Dozen Post Offices Will Stay Open Late

Twelve post offices and one contract postal service window will remain open until midnight Thursday for last-minute mailing of tax returns.

“It’s a big night for us,” Postal Service spokesman George Marsh said. “It’s kind of like Christmas rush all rolled into one night.”

Last year, 50% more mail passed through the Santa Ana post office on April 15 than on an average day, he said.

At the post offices and the contract station staying open late, customers will receive the all-important April 15 postmark if the tax returns are dropped off before midnight, Marsh said. At larger post offices, employees will accept tax returns from people in their cars as they drive by.

Customers are advised to make sure that they have stamps for their returns before midnight. Only the post office at 701 N. Loara St. in Anaheim and the contract station at Farr’s Stationers at 16333 Harbor Blvd. in Fountain Valley will have open walk-up windows until midnight, Marsh said.

Walk-up windows at other post offices throughout the county might stay open past regular hours, depending on demand, Marsh said. Each manager will have the discretion of when to close, he said.

Customers may call (213) 586-1463 and (213) 586-1467 to find the post office nearest to them that will be open until midnight.
