U.S. Open golf champion Tom Kite has two herniated disks and will be sidelined indefinitely.

Kite, who was examined Monday at the Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Inglewood, said in Austin, Tex., on Tuesday he will not “even think about coming back before I get a go-ahead” from his physicians.

Kite said he was scheduled to receive the first of a series of cortisone injections today to combat inflammation in the injured area.

“It’s still very tight,” he said.

Kite, 43, suffered a spasm in his back early last week and played in pain before missing the cut for the final two rounds of the Masters.
