NBA ROUNDUP : Pacers Rally, but Celtics Hold on to Win, 96-90

Robert Parish’s go-ahead tip with 1:10 to play, and strong defense in the final minute gave Boston a 96-90 victory over the Indiana Pacers after the Celtics blew a 19-point lead Tuesday night at Boston.

Getting 19 points from Reggie Lewis, the Celtics broke a five-game losing streak and a four-game home slide--their longest in 14 seasons.

The Pacers were led by Reggie Miller with 24 points.

The Pacers, who trailed, 39-20, early in the second quarter, took their first lead at 74-73 on Miller’s baseline jumper with 10:18 to play. With the score tied, 90-90, Parish tipped in Kevin McHale’s miss.

McHale blocked a shot, and Xavier McDaniel stole the ball for Boston in the final minute.

Orlando 110, Milwaukee 91--Dennis Scott ended a shooting slump with nine three-pointers and a career-high 41 points for the Magic.

A sellout crowd of 15,151 at Orlando Arena booed when Coach Matt Guokas benched Scott with 2:35 to play and the forward needing one more three-pointer to tie an NBA record set last week by Miami’s Brian Shaw.

Scott made 16 of 31 shots and was all eight from the free throw line after making only 36% of his attempts in his previous five games. He tried 19 three-pointers--one shy of Michael Adams’ record.

Shaquille O’Neal was held to 15 points, but had 16 rebounds and seven blocked shots for the Magic.

New York 93, Washington 85-- Rolando Blackman made four consecutive baskets in the first 2:22 of the fourth quarter at New York, and the Knicks won their 17th consecutive home game.

John Starks led the Knicks, 34-4 at Madison Square Garden, with 19 points, while Patrick Ewing had 14 points and 14 rebounds. Harvey Grant led Washington with 27 points.

Blackman scored 10 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter.

Cleveland 112, Atlanta 109--Brad Daugherty’s 14-foot turnaround jumper snapped a tie with 1:31 to play in the second overtime at Atlanta, and the Cavaliers defeated the Hawks for the 10th consecutive time.

The Cavaliers overcame a five-point deficit in the final 54 seconds of regulation. Danny Ferry’s shot with 0.6 seconds remaining tied the game at 99-99.

Mark Price led the Cavaliers with 24 points while John Williams had 21.

Kevin Willis had a season-high 35 points and tied his season-high with 25 rebounds for Atlanta.

Seattle 129, Minnesota 95--Ricky Pierce had 26 points and Sam Perkins 21 as the SuperSonics maintained a hold on second place in the Western Conference standings with a victory at Seattle.

Chris Smith led the Timberwolves with a career-high 24 points. Doug West added 15.

San Antonio 110, Sacramento 100--David Robinson scored 13 of his 16 points in the first half as the Spurs won easily at Sacramento.

Robinson also had 14 rebounds for San Antonio, which handed Sacramento its sixth consecutive defeat. Dale Ellis and J.R. Reid added 17 points each for the Spurs.
