ROUNDUP : Wolf One-Hits San Fernando

Randy Wolf handcuffed San Fernando High on one hit Tuesday to lead visiting El Camino Real to an 8-0 Northwest Valley Conference baseball victory.

Wolf struck out 10 and improved his record to 5-0. Justin Balser and John Novak each had two-run doubles for El Camino Real (11-1, 7-0 in league play), the third-ranked team in The Times’ area poll.

In other high school baseball games:

Granada Hills 9, Reseda 8--Brothers Carlos and Ben Nunez accounted for six hits and five RBIs, but Jimmy Landress hit a grand slam in the fourth inning and the Highlanders (3-9, 1-6) scored four runs in the sixth to win the Northwest Valley Conference game at Reseda.

Junior Carlos Nunez went two for three with a double, triple and five runs batted in, and sophomore Ben Nunez was three for four with two runs for the Regents.

Reseda scored four runs in the seventh, but left-hander Josh Goldberg struck out Travion Trammell with two on to end the game.

Taft 4, Cleveland 3--Josh Irving’s two-run single capped a three-run seventh inning for visiting Taft (13-3, 4-3) in a Northwest Valley Conference game.

Stacy Kleiner led off with a double and scored on a single by Warren Stewart. Cleveland’s Mike Immken (1-2) went the distance in defeat.

Khanti Simmons and Mike Flegenheimer had run-scoring singles for Cleveland (3-8-1, 2-5).

Sylmar 2, Canoga Park 0--Senior right-hander John Bohman (5-2) pitched a three-hitter to give the host Spartans (10-6, 6-1) a Valley Pac-8 Conference victory.

Anthony Martinez had two doubles and an RBI for Sylmar.

Hoover 4, Glendale 2--Sophomore right-hander Gerald De La Pena (4-0) struck out seven and allowed four hits for visiting Hoover (10-4, 5-1) in a Pacific League game.

Hoover scored three runs in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead. Nate Dishington had a run-scoring triple, and Ron Pirayoff and Mike Bertran each had RBI singles.

Monroe 4, Poly 3 (10 innings)--Catcher John Shellabarger doubled in the winning run for the host Vikings (9-3, 6-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.

Shellabarger and Joel Zamudio, who started on the mound for Monroe, each had two hits. Luis Nunez and Luciano Cuevas each had two hits for Poly (5-7, 5-2).

Van Nuys 3, Grant 0--Jesus Bolivar pitched a two-hitter to lead the visiting Wolves to a Valley Pac-8 Conference victory.

North Hollywood 6, Birmingham 1--Juniors Juan Zuniga and Juan Zavala each went two for three with two RBIs to give the visiting Huskies (8-4, 5-2) a Valley Pac-8 Conference win.

Santa Barbara 8, Oxnard 4--Sal Garofalo hit a grand slam to break a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning of a Channel League game. Oxnard is 3-7, 0-6 in league play.

Buena 5, Hueneme 1--James Melcher had a two-run double in the fifth for Buena (10-3, 3-2) in a Channel League game at Hueneme.

Palmdale 9, Highland 6--Senior right-hander Todd Berry (7-0) pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts and went three for four with an RBI to lead the ninth-ranked Falcons (12-3-1, 4-1-1) to a Golden League victory at Highland.

Antelope Valley 9, Quartz Hill 5--The Rebels lost their first Golden League game as James Juneau hit a two-run double and Eric Cole a two-run home run to break a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the sixth for Antelope Valley. Chris Tapia was three for four with two doubles.

Canyon 5, Hart 3--Jason Jennings was four for four to lead the Cowboys (7-7, 3-0) to a Foothill League victory. Canyon is the only undefeated team in league play.

Arcadia 8, Crescenta Valley 0--The Apaches had 10 hits, including six doubles and two triples, in a Pacific League victory at home.

Coutin 18, Faith Baptist 7--The victorious Knights (3-1) recorded 22 stolen bases in the nonleague game, led by Mark Berg (five) and Mike Scully (three).

Whitney 6, Buckley 4 (nine innings)--Taryll Jackson was three for four, including a two-run homer, and pitched a complete game (12 strikeouts), but Buckley committed two errors in the top of the ninth, allowing Whitney to score three unearned runs.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Bakersfield 2, Oxnard 0--The visiting Renegades scored an unearned run in the third inning and got out of a first-and-third, one-out jam in the seventh to hold on for a Western State Conference victory.

Chris Devlin pitched a complete game and struck out seven for Oxnard (10-21, 4-16).

Pierce 8, Santa Monica 3--Left-hander Danny Rodriguez pitched a four-hitter and Pierce remained in third in the WSC. Rodriguez struck out seven and walked three.

Jason Cohen and Lou Tapia each had two hits and two RBIs for the Brahmas (15-11, 12-8).

Ventura 8, Glendale 1--Left-hander Ty Curran (5-5) pitched his third complete game to give the Pirates a WSC win at Glendale.

Mike Muncy (two for four, two doubles, three RBIs) hit a two-out double in the third and knocked in Ron Tegland with a double in the sixth to lead the Pirates. Each team is 14-14, 9-11 in the conference.

Cerro Coso 10, Mission 6--Josh Brown (9-1), who leads state junior college pitchers in wins and innings pitched, suffered his first loss in a Southern California Athletic Conference game at Mission. Brown allowed 16 hits and nine runs, six earned, in 5 1/3 innings.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Fillmore 13, Carpinteria 3--Danielle Stines, Carrie Cone and Claudia Carillo each tripled during a four-run third inning, leading the Flashes (11-1, 2-0) to a Tri-Valley League victory.
