Local drug-education police officers are selling discount general admission tickets to the May 14 California Angels American League baseball game to raise money for programs.

The $2 general admission tickets are for the night game between the Angels and the Kansas City Royals to be played at Anaheim Stadium.

Regular general admission seats are $4.

Proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit local Drug Awareness Resistance Education programs, which are run by police departments and school districts.

The program, which is taught in the classroom by police officers, teaches students about the dangers of abusing drugs and shows them how to resist the pressure of using drugs for recreation or escape.

Community DARE officers from around the county are selling the tickets, said La Palma Police Officer Wesley Sasano, a member of the Orange County region of the California DARE Officers Assn.

The association hopes to sell 10,000 tickets to the game, Sasano said. It is paying $1 for each ticket.

At the game, DARE students will conduct a pregame ceremony and sing the National Anthem, according to Sasano.

To purchase tickets, contact the business office of a local police department or call Sasano at (714) 523-4552 for the telephone number of local DARE officer.
