This factory plans to distribute its product free.

The Note Factory, led by composer and reed player Roscoe Mitchell, is scheduled to give a free jazz concert Sunday at Angels Gate Cultural Center. The performance is part of a spring music festival organized by the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia.

Mitchell, whose compositions

include “Songs in the Wind,” “Sound and Timbre” and “Variations and Sketches from the Bamboo Terrace,” is a CalArts artist-in- residence this year. His group also features pianist Matthew Shipp, bassists William Parker and Jaribu Shahid, and drummers Tani Tabbal and Vincent Davis.

The Note Factory’s San Pedro performance will be the last of three appearances in Los Angeles County this weekend.

The group is scheduled to play at CalArts’ Modular Theatre at 8 p.m. Friday and at the Watts Towers Arts Center in Los Angeles at 2 p.m. Saturday.
