A prisoner who was 15 days from completing a 120-day sentence for narcotics violations was reported missing from a county jail in Castaic on Thursday, authorities said.

Deputies searched the Ranch facility, a minimum-security jail at the Peter J. Pitchess Honor Rancho, about 3:30 p.m. and determined that Ricardo Rivera, 40, was missing, Los Angeles sheriff’s officials said.

A jail worker reported seeing an inmate wearing green jail pants and a white T-shirt walking south on Tapia Canyon Road, about a mile southeast of the Ranch facility, sheriff’s spokesman Rich Erickson said. Deputies were unsure if it was Rivera.

Low-risk inmates who go out on work crews are allowed to walk around in the rancho, Erickson said, but the inmate was walking in an area he was not permitted to cross.

Rivera, who was jailed for being under the influence of a controlled substance, is 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with black hair and brown eyes, Erickson said.
