MTV Movies: MTV is venturing into the film business. MTV chairman Tom Freston confirmed that the network is close to a deal to bring its short film, “Joe’s Apartment,” written by John Payson, to the big screen. The offbeat tale about a man attempting to cope with his less-than-ideal New York City surroundings will be released and distributed by a yet-to-be-announced major studio. Meanwhile, MTV’s incorrigible animated characters “Beavis & Butthead” reportedly are being considered as potential full-length features by a number of studios wanting to tap into the same market that made “Wayne’s World” a box-office bonanza.
