ORANGE : School Official in Critical Condition
The acting interim superintendent for the Orange Unified School District was listed in critical condition Tuesday at Arcadia Methodist Hospital.
Richard Donoghue, 48, was admitted to the hospital April 20 with bleeding ulcers and internal bleeding, said Joyce Capelle, the district’s chief fiscal officer. Donoghue’s condition took a turn for the worse Monday night and he was moved to the hospital’s critical-care unit.
“He is very, very sick,” Capelle said. “We’re getting minute-to-minute reports.”
Donoghue, also the board’s assistant superintendent for business services, was appointed temporarily to the superintendent’s position last May, after the Board of Trustees bought out the remainder of then-Supt. Norman Guith’s contract with the district.
In February, board members voted to begin a search for a new superintendent.
Capelle said Donoghue has received 13 units of blood to replace what he has lost since last week.
The American Red Cross is accepting blood donations on Donoghue’s behalf. Those interested in scheduling an appointment can call (800) 696-1757.
