Brandi Kossub
College: Orange Coast
Sport: Swimming
Class: Freshman
After graduating from Katella High School, Kossub had a scholarship offer to swim at Northern Arizona but wasn’t sure she was ready to go away to college.
So she investigated the local community colleges and discovered that Orange Coast has dominated women’s swimming. The Pirates have won eight State titles, including four consecutive under Coach Don Watson.
Kossub helped OCC dominate the Orange Empire Conference finals last week. She set a conference record in the 50 backstroke (28.42 seconds) and was a member of the 400 medley relay team that set a record (4:06.13) as well. She also won the 100 individual medley, and was part of the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:41.92).
Other top performers:
Jennifer Bloomfield won the 500 freestyle (5:22.66), 200 individual medley (2:15.29), the 100 backstroke (1:02.87) and was part of two winning relay teams for Golden West at the South Coast Conference finals.
Fullerton’s Cindy Escobedo was 16 for 26 for Fullerton’s softball team in the Cerritos Tournament and three conference games.
