L.A. River Cleanup Planned for 6 Sites
Friends of the Los Angeles River and more than two dozen other groups and corporations Saturday will sponsor the “Great Los Angeles River Clean Up” at six locations along the river, including sites in Sepulveda Basin and near Griffith Park.
Sponsors said they are hoping to beat last year’s turnout, when nearly 1,000 volunteers were on hand to help collect litter and debris.
Participants are asked to wear gloves, hats and sensible shoes to the 9 a.m.-to-noon event. Free T-shirts will be given to the first 75 volunteers at each cleanup site.
One site is in Sepulveda Basin just east of Balboa Boulevard. Another is at the Bette Davis picnic area next to the Griffith Park equestrian center. The other sites are Los Feliz Bridge, Elysian Valley, Compton Creek and Willow Street in Long Beach.
