TURN THE TIDE: Kevan Kraushaar, sixth-grader at El Camino Real Elementary in Irvine, has long been an environmentalist. So he hadn’t expected special attention last year on a school science project: “The Effect of Detergent with Phosphates on the Rate of Algae Growth in Pond Water.” It not only won him a science fair award, but a $3,000 scholarship from the new Planet laundry detergent--with his picture on each box sold. . . . With reason: His project showed that its non-toxic material was environmentally superior to others.
