Prosecutors filed one misdemeanor charge Monday against a Lancaster man accused of leading two juveniles on a weekend graffiti session at Columbus Junior High School in Canoga Park.

Jesse Clay Adams, 18, is charged with vandalism in the April 18 incident that resulted in about 20 spray-painted signs at the school.

Adams and two Simi Valley residents, ages 16 and 17, were arrested about 2:30 a.m. after a neighbor alerted police to suspicious activity on the Elkwood Street campus.

Authorities discovered the trio and saw black-and-white graffiti on doors, windows, lockers and walls in an outdoor courtyard. Officials estimated that the damage cost $1,000 to clean up.

Deputy City Atty. Richard A. Schmidt said the graffiti consisted mainly of initials commonly written by taggers.

Adams is scheduled to appear in Municipal Court on May 13 for arraignment. If convicted, Adams could be sentenced to six months in County Jail.
