PRO BASKETBALL / UPDATE : LAKERS
The Lakers drew more than four times the audience the Kings did Sunday among Southern California television viewers.
The Lakers’ 86-81 upset of the Suns in the second game of their Western Conference series on Channel 4 received a 13.1 rating, attracting 34% of the entire television audience. It was the station’s highest-rated NBA game this season, other than the All-Star game.
The Kings’ 5-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks in Game 1 of the Smythe Division finals on Channel 7 had a 3.2 rating and 8% of the television audience, according to figures released Monday by the A.C. Nielsen Co.
Each rating point is equivalent to 1% of the television households in Southern California, or 49,657 households.
Having to compete against the Lakers apparently caused the Kings’ rating to decline 23.8%. Telecasts on the two preceding Sundays each received 4.2 ratings.
