SIMI VALLEY : Rockwell to Conduct Free Guided Tours
Rockwell International will offer free guided tours of its Santa Susana Field Laboratory near Simi Valley this weekend.
Rockwell’s Rocketdyne Division will conduct four bus tours of the 2,700-acre complex Saturday.
The lab was established as a test site in 1947, and Atlas and Delta engines for the Apollo missions and the space shuttle were built and tested there.
Tours of the complex are scheduled to begin at 8, 9:15, 10:45 a.m. and noon, said Rockwell spokeswoman Lori Circle. Each of the tours lasts about two hours, and reservations must be made by calling 818-586-6742.
Rockwell conducts tours twice a year at the facility. Another tour is planned in the fall, Circle said.
The lab is located southeast of Simi Valley, at the south end of Black Canyon Road.
