Objecting to Portrayal of 80-Year-Old Woman
Re “Blazing a Better Path to Old Age” (April 20):
The work that Patricia Moore is doing to assist the elderly is commendable. I have strong objection to her portrayal of an 80-year-old woman. The pictures are very disturbing. Eighty-year-olds are not necessarily ones with canes and dowdy clothes hanging on the body.
Some climb mountains, ride motorcycles, do Egyptian dancing, dress in the latest styles and walk with a stride that puts many younger people to shame.
We need desperately in our culture to let young people know that an elder does not have to be in a nursing home, walking with a cane, forgetful, but is a creative person alive and celebrating life.
