GM Parts Plant to Remain Open: General Motors Corp. said it has reached an agreement with a local branch of the United Auto Workers union to keep a parts plant in Michigan open for three more years. Half the plant’s workers, however, will still lose their jobs. The Livonia, Mich., plant, one of 23 parts and assembly plants that GM had earmarked for closure under a previously announced restructuring program, will continue to build springs, struts and suspension parts for GM vehicles. However, the plant will no longer build chrome bumpers, meaning some 750 of the plant’s 1,550 hourly jobs will be lost.
